WORD EXPLORER | ADVANCED LEXICAL SEARCH & SEMANTIC MAPPING
Word Explorer is a thematic vocabulary exploration game that encourages students to discover, categorize, and define vocabulary within specific thematic fields. By presenting learners with conceptual search spaces, it helps build semantic networks and deepens word comprehension.
Semantic Awareness & Vocabulary Range
The target is building word depth (collocations, synonyms, antonyms) and category association, targeting CEFR B1 to C2 levels. Rather than learning lists, students explore how words relate to each other, improving their reading comprehension and writing styles through diverse vocabulary selection.
Classroom Integration & Concept Mapping
Teachers can use Word Explorer for pre-reading vocabulary tasks or topic introductions. In groups, students select a theme and map out related vocabulary, defining terms and presenting their maps to the class. This visual, structured process assists memory retention and encourages collaborative peer teaching.
Level Customization & Scaffolding
Intermediate classes can focus on basic synonyms and category groupings. Advanced groups can be challenged to find collocations, word families, or idiomatic expressions related to the theme, subsequently drafting a short narrative using at least five words from their explorer map.
